“For as long as I can remember, I have had an unhealthy relationship with food. Prior to beginning to work with Wern, I had peaks and troughs in terms of my size and fitness – at times very fit and at times extremely unfit and obese. As with most people, being obese and an unhealthy diet made me extremely self-conscious, constantly exhausted and in a perpetual negative mental state.
I came to Wern after 2 years of working, lunching and drinking in the city and having hardly set foot in a gym. I knew then, as I do now, that as well as an expert PT and nutritionist, I needed someone who could help coach me through some of my more self-destructive eating and drinking habits, keep me positive and enable me to consistently achieve the kind of gains (or rather losses) that I need to keep me motivated.
Over the past few months Wern has provided exactly that for me and, with his help, I have lost over 10kgs and 10% of my body fat. The hard part wasn’t starting, the hard part was staying motivated over a prolonged period of time and Wern’s ‘no BS’ style of getting to know you as an individual, pushing you hard and genuinely caring about the results, was key in keeping me coming back and recovering from hiccups. That said, it was never in doubt that the onus was, and is, on me alone to make the changes I wanted but nor is it in doubt that I couldn’t have done it without him.
